Lost in a Moment

you made me smile...

Yup, I found myself a job!

I'm now working part-time (6-hour shifts, two days a week) at a chic little Italian restaurant called PizzaExpress in Central. I know I could do better than $35/hour, but considering it's my first paying job, I'll take what I can get.

Never let it be said that waitressing is easy, because it's not. Hell no. Imagine standing for 6 hours straight, making drinks in an area of no more than 5 square feet filled with weird machinery and breakable things like bottles, glasses and plates. Try preparing and serving over 40 different soft drinks, juices, waters, coffees, beers, and wines - most of which I've never even heard of, let alone pronounce. And if I have to polish one more piece of cutlery...grrrr!

Still, it's been quite an experience because as shallow as it might sound, I never knew earning money was *this* hard. I've also learned that serving food is a process that's more intricate than most people think, and that little details such as making sure the customer's glass is always full makes all the difference between whether they come back again or not.

The restaurant itself isn't a very busy one anyway so the general atmosphere is relaxed and cozy, which helps. The other girls working there are a little older than I am and they've all been working for quite a long time, but they're crazy individuals which make work more enjoyable. And a little flirting with the chefs never hurts, especially you've gone without food for five hours and he promises to sneak you some pizza when the manager isn't looking...

And I'm proud to announce I survived my first two days of work without breaking anything! :)

So, if you'll excuse my blatant advertising: if you happen to be at Central on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings, drop by 27 Lyndhurst Terrace (take the mid-levels escalator) for some yummy pizza, quality service, and say hi!

...but i see it now, and i can say it's gone,

edit: ugh. i told you i had no sense of direction. when i said TST, i *actually* meant Central. thanks for pointing that out, Pokky!

foolishly i romanticized...

I've had a great Christmas and new year meeting up with SC friends. Hours of laughter, reminiscing and catching up has filled a void in me that I didn't even know existed, even though I'm sure it's been there for quite a while.

Situations may change, but the certain familiarity and comfort associated with people you've known for nearly half your life will remain for many years to come...

New year, new beginnings Something is on the horizon, and I have a good feeling about it.

someone was saving my life for the first time,

edit: methinks i need some thick socks. i've lost feeling in my toes again.

i’m always a little too optimistic when it comes to you.

Maybe I didn’t tell you enough while you were still here, but

i love you.

I miss you so much, Daddy, especially in times like these.

it’s a habit i’m hoping to break,

i let my imagination get the better of me.

I have my first final in 5 days, but I have done no revising *whatsoever*...

monday: dinner @ NA with ‘turtle’ psych buddies

tues: english table (last for this semester!) + ping pong with dan & enrico

weds: ‘uniform-themed’ psych dept. gathering + ‘siu yeh’ @ fo tan

thurs: thanksgiving dinner (my first ever thanksgiving) @ ruby tuesdays

sat: service @ the airport + dinner @ shatin + chilling @ UC pub

**Some SERIOUS nerding is in order!**

I also met up with JC + Rach last weekend when they came over to CU to debate! Loved hanging out with you girls – I had so much fun catching up, and darn, it made me miss debating…

The greatest regret of the week however, has got to be missing my last ever SC school fair! I volunteered to help out at the airport (“Good morning, sir, welcome to Hong Kong! May I be of any assistance?”) but the evil woman at the airport wouldn’t let me leave early, unless I had a good enough excuse: “I will only let you leave early if you had a very good reason – like if a relative had an accident and ended up in hospital.” Bitch.

but i'm one happy bunny anyway: janel's back on the 14th! *squeee*

and for that i’m sorry,
